What each one is for
A Permanent Account Number identifies you to the Income Tax Department. You cannot file a return, open a bank account, make a large investment or register a company without one. A Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is different and often overlooked — it is required by anyone who deducts tax at source, which includes every business that pays salaries above the threshold, rent above ₹2.4 lakh a year, professional fees or contractor payments. Deducting TDS without a TAN, or failing to quote it on returns and certificates, attracts a penalty of ₹10,000, so new businesses should obtain both at the outset.
- PAN is unavoidable. Tax filing, bank accounts, investments above threshold limits and company registration all require it.
- TAN enables TDS compliance. Required the moment you pay salaries, rent, professional fees or contractor bills above the limits.
- Avoid the ₹10,000 penalty. Section 272BB penalises failure to obtain or quote a TAN where required.
- Both together. We file Form 49A and Form 49B in parallel rather than charging twice.
- Individual or company. We handle personal PAN as readily as company PAN and TAN.
- Entirely online. No visit to a facilitation centre; the physical card follows by post.
Documents you'll need
- Aadhaar card of the applicant, for e-KYC verification.
- Identity proof — voter ID, passport or driving licence.
- Address proof — utility bill, bank statement or Aadhaar.
- Passport-size photograph.
- Date of birth proof — birth certificate, matriculation certificate or passport.
- Certificate of incorporation and registered office proof, for company PAN and TAN.

Incorporating a company? You may not need this
PAN and TAN are issued automatically as part of the SPICe+ incorporation process, and our Private Limited, OPC and LLP packages already include them at no extra cost. This service is for individuals, proprietorships, existing businesses that never obtained a TAN, and correction or reissue cases.
Frequently asked
Can I hold more than one PAN?
No. Holding more than one PAN is an offence carrying a ₹10,000 penalty. If you have inadvertently been issued a duplicate — which happens — you must surrender the extra one. We can handle that process for you.
Does a proprietorship need a separate PAN?
No. A sole proprietorship is not a separate legal entity, so the proprietor's personal PAN serves the business. A TAN is still required in the business name if the proprietorship deducts TDS.
How do I correct a mistake on my PAN?
Errors in name, date of birth, photograph or father's name are corrected through a PAN correction application with supporting proof. We handle corrections and reissues at the same ₹1,499.
Is TAN needed if I have no employees?
Possibly. TDS applies to more than salaries — rent above ₹2.4 lakh a year, professional and contractor payments above their thresholds, and commission payments all require deduction. If you make any of these, you need a TAN.
★★★★★
"PAN and TAN both sorted in four days. Simple, inexpensive, and no running around to a facilitation centre. They spotted a spelling mismatch before filing which would have delayed the whole thing."
